Shooting Tips

Most of these are common sense, but here are a few proven tips from our best selling photographers

Photos of Individuals

Take Photos of something you enjoy and know alot about. If you like getting up early, and you likegoing to the beach and are a surfer yourself, go and shoot some surfers at sunrise. If you sell photos it will just be a bonus as you were doing something you enjoy!

Take Photos of people who may not have alot of good photos of themselves and are therefore likely to buy (eg don’t take photos of a Red Bull BMX rider, he probably has a few of himself already!)

Take photos of people who are likely to have disposable cash to pay for photos. Eg a Porsche or Ferrari club meeting at a local park – these guys probably have spare $!

Ensure you have the equipment for what you are shooting. If you don’t have a “fast” lens maybe avoid indoor sports and if you don’t have a good zoom, don’t shoot kite surfers.

Exercise common sense when shooting children and always ensure you are on the right side of the law

Events

Pick an event you will enjoy shooting and it won’t be work!

Pick a “hero event” where people will be delighted to have a photo showing they are part of an elite group (eg finishing a 100 mile desert marathon!)

Pick an event where other photographers will have difficulty getting access to and where an iPhone will not capture a decent photo

Pick an event near you

Pick an event with alot of competitors (more potential customers!)

Photo Art

Shoot scenery you are passionate about.

Shoot something that you have the appropriate camera and lens for
